I was recently in a social environment with a girl who is both stunningly beautiful and really enjoyable to be around. We have mutual friends in common so we actually find ourselves together quite a lot, and while I enjoy my time spent around this girl, I always leave each interaction feeling so fake. I was never sure why, because I genuinely do like this girl and we get along really well, but after a couple of months of light social interactions, it finally dawned on me what was going on.
Flattery tennis. She liked to play rounds of flattery tennis, and I had unknowingly been signing up, and showing up, for her matches for months.
Flattery tennis, to better clarify, is when two humans (mostly female, let’s be honest) get together and hit the ball back and forth with compliments, often times depreciating their own value on the return hit. [Read more…]
Welcome to the newly redesigned A Lover’s Anthology!
I’ve spent a lot of time over the past couple of months figuring out what I want my message to be with this blog. And while I love, like whoah love, beauty, I also love a lot of other things- like cooking and music and traveling, and I wanted to able to share all of those things with you as well and not feel like I was only able to tell you about my new favorite mascara. I want this to be a place where we have really interesting conversations about all the best things in this life. So maybe one day we are talking about Fall lipstick and the next day we’re talking about this amazing restaurant in Portofino, Italy that we can all add to our dream list to try- but either way, I want this to be a meeting place of all things beautiful. A resource for us all to live our most adventurous & beautiful life; the chance for all of us to write our own anthology filled with exciting places and thoughts and ideas.
