Due to my unexpected stroke of illness that overtook me last week and incapacitated me and kept me from having even one critical thought, I am one week late on my resolutioning with you. Can you forgive me? Let’s hope so. And since we don’t have even a second to waste, we should get down to what’s most important: our beauty resolutions. Because it’s nice to lose 5 pounds, but it’s way more fun to buy one expensive lipstick just because. Two years ago was when I committed to wearing more lipstick, last year was the year of “be more” and this year is the year of pampering. Not in a overly indulgent way, but in a hey I’m an adult and this is what sophisticated adult women do to take care of themselves kind of way.
Resolution 1: Try a new skincare routine
Why: Because I’m not sure why mine isn’t working anymore and at 26, I’m ready for my skin to calm down and just work as it should. A great skincare regimen is so important and not to be ignored, so if you’re ignoring it or being lackluster about your skincare then you should probably make this resolution for yourself as well. In fact, if you’re ignoring your skin care routine, I want you to imagine your skin in 30 years if you don’t do anything to take care of it now. Do yourself (and your future self) a favor and commit to this resolution now. And if you have a skincare routine that you love, will you share it with me?
Resolution 2: No picking!
Why: Because picking at your skin is one of the worst things you can do to your face. Celeb dermatologist Renee Rouleau even made a “no picking contract” that she makes her clients sign. Genius, right? If I want beautiful skin, this is a step that has to be taken.
Resolution 3: Get a facial OR a massage once every 2 months
Why: Because pampering yourself is part of a healthy beauty routine. If you’re worried about a cost commitment of something like this, think about it like this: you can get a massage or a facial for around $75, and if you go every two months then it breaks down to about $9.40/week, which is the cost of two lattes. Can you save two lattes a week in order to let yourself feel great once every two months? I think you can and should. Also once time Blake Lively said that her skin was only as good as it is because she gets regular facials, so, that should be motivation enough for us all.
Resolution 4: Buy one expensive lipstick
Why: Because I want to. I am very passionate about the power of a great drugstore lipstick and constantly try to share my favorites with you, but I also know that when you go into a department store and spend $49 on a Tom Ford lipstick just because, you feel something. I don’t think this is an indulgence you should take often, but at least once or twice this year I want to pick a beautiful color, walk into Bergdorfs, buy it and wear it out of the store. Just because.
What do you think? Do any of these resonate with you on some level? Will you commit to doing at least one with me?! Let me hear yours!
