I bet if you were being honest with me, you haven’t washed your makeup brushes in, ohhh, let’s say 3 months. And for some of you that’s a generous guestimation. But think about how much bacteria is built up in all of those tiny bristles, just waiting to clog your pores and break out your skin. And then, everyday, you wipe that bacteria right back into your makeup, causing you to contaminate your makeup and shorten the life of your product, and the life of your brushes!
Bacteria spreads like wildfire, and if I had to guess, most of your makeup is already pretty full of it by this point. It’s pretty disgusting to think about swirling all that gross bacteria around your face once, sometimes twice, a day. I mean, if you think about it, you are willingly infecting your face with bacteria just because you don’t take the time to clean your brushes! Nasty. Now that we’ve owned up to our shortcomings and are going to promise to wash them once a week (NON-NEGOTIABLE!), what’s the best and most convenient way to do it?
The above four are great options- it just depends what you’re comfortable with. The first two are sprays, and make it so easy to clean your brushes even on a daily basis. Just simply spray the bristles when you’re done with your makeup for the day, wipe back and forth on a paper towel until nothing more is coming off the brush and lay them down to dry. The last two are soaps that are excellent for a deep clean. Just get a small bowl, fill it with warm water, put a few drops of the soap in, swirl each brush in the mixture and let all brushes sit for 10-15 seconds. Rinse soap out with cold water, reshape the brush and let them dry overnight. The Beauty Department has a great tutorial for this type of cleaning that I highly recommend you check out!
Okay, so fess up below, when was the last time you washed your brushes? I’ll admit, it was a month ago for me and I am sick to my stomach about it! Take the pledge with me and wash your brushes TONIGHT and once a week here on out! If you will, comment below and I am going to hold you accountable to it!
